The Importance of Outsourcing
Believe it or not, outsourcing is the missing piece to the success of your business. I’m Courtney Weimer a Virtual Assistant & Social Media Manager.
Ah, outsourcing.
I’m sure you’ve been hearing this term being thrown around like the daily news. But do you really know what it means, and the importance of taking the initiative and implementing it within your business?
Let me start off by introducing myself - I’m Courtney Weimer a Virtual Assistant & Social Media Manager. I primarily work with Brand and Web Designers, but love working with any passionate creative who’s ready to take their business to the next level!
Now, back to the scheduled programming →
Outsourcing is when you streamline a part of your business to an expert within that particular area, that you might not have enough time or energy to do yourself - because you are just one person, remember.
“So, why do I care?”
Well, in order to run a sustainable business, you need to be able to let go of control from time to time… Which many entrepreneurs have trouble with - I get it, when you put your heart and soul and everything in between into something, it can be hard giving a piece of it away to a stranger on the internet.
(stranger danger)
Believe it or not, outsourcing is the missing piece to the success of your business.
But I’m here to tell you not to be scared of outsourcing - Hell, if it wasn’t for it, I wouldn’t be able to grow in the way we have in these last couple of months.
Here’s why you need to outsource your business like, yesterday →
1. BRING IN A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Have you ever found yourself in a slump at some point in your business? You’re not alone.
As creative business owners, we’re expected to be creative literally 25/8. & to be honest, it gets exhausting at times. As many of you know, creativity doesn't just have a switch that you can turn off and on whenever you feel like it.
So what do you do when you feel completely out of ideas, and headed into a dead-end?
You outsource it! (duh)
Bringing in a fresh perspective can help you squash your worries of having to think up an idea while you’re running on empty.
This will teach you to bounce ideas off each other, and come up with a compromise that's your business’s best interest!
2. ALLEVIATE STRESS
Honey, you’re stressed - the sooner you admit it, the better your life will become.
I’m going to repeat this for the second time, you are only one person - yes you’re a badass and more than capable of getting the job done, but what about your mental health?
Business owners working 12 hours a day aren’t only negatively impacting their health, but as well as their business's well being!
We tend to forget that how we are doing mentally, reflects into our work subconsciously without us even trying - so if you’re mentally burnt out, it’s gonna show in all aspects of your business.
& guess what? You end up not liking your business as much!
When you take some responsibility away from yourself, and give it to the experts - you’re doing yourself a HUGE favor.
Thank me in advance.
3. FOCUS ON YOUR GENIUS
You know the reason why you started your business in the first place? You had a passion, took a risk and ran with it.
But something between then and now, changed. You start dreading deadlines, and you find yourself falling behind more and more every single week. & now your business is starting to feel, well, more like a 9-5… which is what you were trying to stray away from in the first place.
Ugh.
You now have to send contracts, invoices, worry about your social media and do client work (the list seems to go on and on). But what if I told you, you can go back to the very beginning and only worry about what you're passionate about?
The secret is handing off the not-so fun things to someone who does it professionally. (like me)
You can get back to the fun stuff - the hard stuff is left for the experts!
4. GROWTH IS GOOD
The thought of outsourcing seems to scare a lot of entrepreneurs because they have to show them the dark corners of their business, and how things ultimately work.
But, if you think about it, outsourcing should be looked at like a great thing!
I used to blab-on about the importance of outsourcing, and never really did it for my own business - until recently I outsourced my branding and website design - and let me tell you, it was the best decision I have ever made!
If your business is growing to a point where the workload is out of control, and you have to hire someone onto your team to handle a part of it… Congratulations!
Most of us start our businesses without the knowledge that it might actually go somewhere big, and once it does, we don't want to believe it because in our minds we think we’re not ready - I call bull****!
Companies like Apple started as a one-man band, what makes you any different?
5. A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
You want to get to know your fellow entrepreneurs?
What a better way to form a community than by meeting business owners who can end up helping you and your business.
Following people within your target audience is great, but by opening up your doors and following creatives that offer different services, in different niches is amazing for your business.
Once you outsource you will be interacting with their target audience, and the people they are working with, it's a super easy way to network and get your name known within said industry. & after broadening your circle, you can then refer people to others - it’s like a positive cycle!
By developing these professional relationships, you will feel like a part of a community and a sense of company.
Plus, who doesn't want more friends?
Conclusion
You see, outsourcing can be a wonderful thing when embraced.
By looking to outsource, you have time to truly reflect where you are at within your business, and what you need help with, shows that you are self-aware of the fact that you are growing as an individual and as a business owner.
I love that for you!
With all that being said, you know what's right for your business at this time, if you feel like you’re truly not ready to outsource - whether that's due to finances, or just timing, it’s okay to hold off on it until it feels right!
